On 11th July the whole Van Laar team Margraten travelled to Brussels to visit the Musical Instruments Museum (MIM). The musicologist Géry Dumoulin, who is responsible for the collection of wind instruments, gave us a warm welcome and a tour of the museum. The curator is currently restructuring a part of the museum’s collection. In one showcase one can see various instruments that have conical bores, including historic bugles and saxhorns designed by the Belgian inventor and musician Adolphe Sax. This historical series is now completed by the sleek and modern-looking OIRAM flugelhorn from the 21st century, which was designed by the Belgian architect Mario Garzaniti in close collaboration with Hub van Laar. It was a very proud moment to see our OIRAM flugelhorn on display as “Instrument of the Month” (until the end of July). We can certainly recommend a visit to this interesting museum! A big thank you to everyone at the MIM, and Géry Dumoulin in particular, for a wonderful day.
