The B9.2 was love at first sight for me. It is a truly versatile horn, which just gets better and better every day I play it. It has a very open-blowing feel and a remarkably dark tone, but this can be opened up to attain a real brightness quickly at will. Rich in overtones, it blends beautifully into bigger ensembles, but is also a great solo instrument. I really only need to concentrate on the music with this instrument.
The flugelhorn is beautiful, and impeccably crafted. I love its lightness, and how big it sounds compared to its weight. It really sings, and that’s the most important thing. It resonates in my hand; the sound is warm, round, and has a kind of intimacy. Although it’s a modernly built horn, it sounds pretty old-school. I just love it!
