I discovered Van Laar instruments when I was looking for a handmade instrument that would work for me in a chamber music setting as well as for playing at the back of an orchestra. When I play my Van Laar trumpets it feels as if I can sing. My quartet, Bella Tromba, tease me for loving my instruments so much (it’s not the done thing in the UK) but I feel such a bond with them. They have been made for me and I love the feeling of connecting with them and seeing what we can play together.
